Come Closer has various things happening through the year. We have monthly Meetings as well as periodic bible studies called ‘study it closer’, which are based in Milton Keynes. We also have a book club called ‘Read it Closer’ that regardless of location, anyone can join us for. See more information below:
COME CLOSER 2020 DATES
Here are our 2020 dates! We’re so looking forward to everything this year will bring as we come together.
READ IT CLOSER BOOK CLUB
You’re warmly invited to join with us this season in our ‘Read It Closer’ bookclub, as read ‘Present Over Perfect’ by Shauna Niequist. The bookclub is designed for those who both live in MK and also those from further afield.
All you need to do is buy yourself a copy of the book, and read along at your own pace! To share the journey together you could join in the conversation in our Come Closer Facebook group, where we will share quotes from the book, things that have really made us think, or have especially blessed us, to encourage each other. Alternatively, we will be posting quotes on our Instagram page (comecloserministries) which we’d love you to comment on. Finally, we will be sharing a few things from the book as we meet at Come Closer on the usual Friday evenings once a month from November.
Note: If you want to be added to the Come Closer Facebook group, search for the group and request to be added. We’ll ensure you are given access.
On Saturday 4th January at 10:30 we’ll meet up for a cup of tea or coffee, maybe (definitely) some cake, and have an informal chat about the book, sharing our thoughts and impressions and challenges. We are hoping to try to stream this live on Facebook in our group, for those who might want to join in from home or watch it later in the day. We’ll let you know where we’ll be meeting nearer the time. And don’t worry if you haven’t finished the book by then – come along anyway!
Blurb about the book:
‘We often find ourselves exhausted, isolated – longing for connection, meaning, depth, but settling for busyness and roles. This is a compelling vision for living in grace, rest, simplicity, prayer, and connection. What would it look like to leave behind the pressure to be perfect and practice standing in God’s grace in the middle of the mess and ordinariness of life?’
This book may be especially helpful for those of us who may find the busy pace of life – family, home, work, church, serving, ministry, friends etc – can often catch us unawares with moments of overwhelm, and can dampen our joy. For anyone struggling to get a good balance in life, to live freely and fully as God intends, if you’re trying and wanting to make some changes – big or small – but are not sure how, this is for you. It’s lovely to read, with small bite sized chapters, and Shauna shares honestly and with vulnerability. This book gently reminds us that life is not just about living for Jesus, but walking with Jesus.
I underlined something on nearly every page (but that’s how I read!). So I’m looking forward to reading it again with you all.
Present over Perfect is available from many online bookstores. So pop the book in your basket, and the date in your diary, and join us as we learn together
This term we are reading ‘Unexpected’ by Christine Caine.
You can always email us for more details at email email@example.com
Please note this Book Club doesn’t replace the Come Closer Bible study, it’s just another layer for those who are interested. Feel free to join us!
Study it Closer Bible Study
We’ll be doing another bible study shortly, and will update you with more details.

Friday September 13th @ 7:45pm
Speaker Kelly Minter – Tuesday was a great evening! Gathering together with amazing women across the city and beyond! Kelly truly blessed us! We worshiped together and then leaned in to hear what she had to say. She encouraged and challenged us in that reaching out to the poor, lost and least: always leads us to the end of ourselves, but then ultimately to Jesus; reminds us of where we have come from (the grace, power and wonder of salvation); and it is a common entry into God’s story!
Speaker – Rebekah Taylor – Rebekah spoke about the power fear can have over our lives. Read Rebekah’s blog here!
Speaker Birgitte Grace – This was a powerful message where Birgitte broke down the complex subject of the soul into bite sized chunks with brilliant visuals. Thank you Birgitte! We will never forget the bald hedgehog!
Speaker Emma Beaney shared some thoughts with us! “Be encouraged. God is so good, and wants you to come so much closer to Him. To rest in Him, to lean into Him. Let me encourage you to ‘pause’ and take steps over these coming weeks to give him the much needed ‘space’ in your life. I pray you will know His presence, His peace, His life and His altogether loveliness. He is faithful and His love endures forever. Love Emma “
Speaker: Cally Magalhães – We were incredibly privileged and excited to have had Cally Magalhães speak at Come Closer. Cally is an absolute inspiration who runs the Eagle Project – working on the streets and in the prisons of São Paulo – Brazil. The Eagle Project does amazing work, helping each individual rebuild a hope filled future.
‘MY STORY’ Evenings – These are evening where everyday women share something from their life stories. If you have been to a ‘My Story’ evening before at Come Closer, you’ll know this is not to be missed.
